Color My Heart - Color Dare Challenge #78

Working with various card challenges over the past few weeks has really made card designing a lot more fun for me.  I am using my stash of supplies and lots of ideas I have been seeing on Pinterest.  For this color dare I was able to use some really "vintage" CTMH B&T paper from my first years of being a consultant (almost 10 years now).

Hollyhock and Indian Corn Blue have always been some of my favorite colors, but I haven't used them too much lately.   So this was fun.    See the link for this challenge here http://colormyheartcolordare.blogspot.com/

Playing with color, chevrons, and washi tape

Atlantic Hearts Challenge Sketch #39

I've been looking through my cards and realized that I could use more cards that might be appropriate for those who aren't the floral or fancy-fussy card type.  So I played with the colors suggested in this week's Color My Heart Color Dare#77 and the sketch for the Atlantic Hearts Challenge #39.  Several colors would not have been the choices I would have put together, but I do like they way they look here.  (CTMH colors: Smokey Plum, Cranberry,  Sunset, Honey,  Juniper)   I was too late to post to the Color Dare Challenge, but I enjoyed playing with the colors.
I will be offering this as a card to make at my February 11 card workshop.

Mojo Monday Fun

This week it was fun to play with my CTMH Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge (pp.31 and 65) and a Valentine theme to follow the MOJO Monday #329 sketch.  I love the shimmer of the black glitter paper and the texture of the hearts.

This is a card that will be available at my February 11 card workshop.

Kid's Valentine Workshop

This is a great Mommy/Daddy and Me, Grandma/Grandpa and Me, or Auntie/Uncle and Me fun time.

Each item will be $.40 apiece up to 15 items.  Beginning with the 16th item, the price drops to $.25 per item.

Types of things that will be available are:
  • Cards - can be folded over sealed with stickers if needed for classroom distribution
  • Treat bag toppers
  • Valentine Book marks - have plastic sleeves
  • Pencil holders ($0.10) - pencils not included
  • Sucker sleeves ($0.05 and $0.10 depending on size) - suckers not included
  • Match cover candy holders ($0.05)
Here a just a few samples of what the kids can make.

I will have samples made to give the kids some ideas they can either copy or create their own.  There are words like Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad etc. so the kids can personalize the cards if they wish.

Please let me know if you are interesting in coming by Thursday, January 30.  I would appreciate knowing the number of children and ages so that I have appropriate types of Valentines for them.

If you are interested, but the date or time doesn't work for you, let me know and I can try to set an additional date that will work for you.

Please feel free to share this invite with anyone you think might be interested.

Another day, another challenge...

Well, it's preview time to start playing with the new products from the new idea book to be released in February.  I just love this little fox from the up-coming CTMH February stamp of the month.  He is just the right size for working into the MOJO Monday #328 challenge.

This will be one of the cards available to make at my
February Card Workshop on Tuesday, February 11.

Supplies used on this card are all from Close To My Heart.
  • Cardstock  - Cocoa, Smoothie, and White Daisy
  • B&T paper is from the retired paper pack X7166B Claire
  • Bronze Shimmer Trim Z1849 (also used on the ears, tail, and flower stem)
  • Smoothie Ink

Color Dare # 76

This week's challenge is to use the color Smoothie with a neutral.
I paired it up with Cocoa to give it a little pop.

I had fun playing with this color and made a few different cards,
but this is the one that I liked best for the Color Dare Challenge.

All the supplies used are from Close To My Heart.
I found the idea for the card design on pinterest -- love that site!
  • Stamps used are D1476 Card Chatter - Sympathy and  C1352 You Are Beautiful (retired) and one of my favorite go-to floral stamps.
  • To shade the flowers I used a waterbrush (retired) with ink from the Smoothie ink pad and the darker Smoothie alcohol marker.
  • Finally I added the Glitz Stardust Gel Z1313 (soon to retire) to give the flowers a little shimmer.
This is one of the cards I will be offering at my February workshop.

1/18/14 -- Just learned that I won the Color Dare Sapphire (third runner-up) for this card, but I haven't figured out how to grab and display the badge for it on the side of my blog.  Oh well, the learning continues.  I'll keep trying!

Mojo Monday Challenge #327

This week's weather has been conducive to spending time in the scrap room creating.  I really should be finishing the Christmas de-trimming of the house, but that can wait another hour or two.

Here's another challenge I wanted to try this week.

For my entry I've used the CTMH January stamp of the month - Cross Stitch Wishes, (available this month only) Cotton Candy and Topiary Cardstock, Hollyhock and topiary ink, and the pink polka dot washi tapeis from the CTMH Winter Holiday From The Heart Gift Guide.

For more info on the Stamp of the Month, contact me or visit my website

Another Challenge Card

I had hoped to enter the Color Dare Challenge #75 since this is my favorite color combination, however, I didn't link up in time.  Oh well, maybe better timing on the next one.

So here's the card I came up with.  I love the birch trees and the blue jay.

It's probably my favorite card this month.

Supplies used:
CTMH Pacifica cardstock
Taylored Expressions Birch Tree Border die
Taylored Expressions Birch Tree Accessories die
CTMH Stardust Glitter Gel
CTMH Holiday Tags D1560, however the Thinking of You came from a retired stamp set

Hello Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #37

I've been finding little moments here and there to hide away in my scrap room to try new card challenges.  I'm finding that I am able to create new cards faster that way.  Hooray!

This week I've tried a few challenges.  This one is for the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge  http://atlanticheartschallenge.blogspot.com
Here is my winter card using this sketch.
This  little penguin from the Close To My Heart
(Fall/Winter idea book - Hostess Collection* Wintry Wishes - C1560) has been one of my favorite go-to stamp set for my January cards.  His earmuffs are fuzzy which you might not be able to see here.  I used some fun flock for those.  His snowball is glittery (CTMH Stardust Glitz Glitter Gel*).

Other supplies used on this card - all available from Close To My Heart kburrows.ctmh.com
  • Black Cardstock
  • Blue B&T duo is from the Pro-Player paper packet - X7172B
  • Silver Glitz Glitter Gel* - Z1482
  • Silver Shimmer Trim - Z1799
  • Black Shimmer Trim -  Z1809
  • Holiday Tags - D1560
Please note that any of the starred* items will be retiring at the end of January.  So if you love this little penguin,  you'd need to host a gathering, workshop, or a catalog gathering by January 31rst to qualify to get him.

Kids Valentine Workshop, Anyone?

Several years ago I offered a Valentine making workshop for kids -- "Mom and Me", "Gram and Me" type workshop where kids could work with an adult to make valentines for their classmates or for family members. The cards would also be appropriate for an adult to make to send to kids.
  •  Just wondering if there is interest in that type of a workshop again. The cards would be stamped with possibly a little coloring -- probably no paper layers.
  • Let me know if you'd be interested. The workshop would most likely be held on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
  • These are examples from the last workshop.  They folded in half and then were sealed with a heart sticker.

New Year Goals

Mojo Monday

One of my goals this year is to make more frequent entries on my blog.  One of the ways to do that is to participate in some card and scrapbooking challenges.  For the past few years I have using the MOJO Monday sketches for some of my cards, but have never submitted a card.  This is it.  Today is the day I submit my first card for MOJO326

It's a 4 1/4 inch square card.
I used the following CTMH products:
  • Black cardstock
  • the Outdoor denim print is from the Pro Player kit - X7172B
  • Black shimmer trim - Z1809
  • The silver glitter paper is from the Black and Grey Glitter Paper pack - Z1829
  • The penguin is from the Hostess Reward stamp set C1560 - Wintry Wishes
This is one of the cards we will be making at my January Card Workshop on January 14th.  Please call or email to reserve your spot at the workshop.
